Christina Katherine (Argeris) Thomas, 70, of Greenfield Massachusetts passed away Monday, July 31, 2017. “Crystal”, as she preferred to be called, was predeceased by her loving parents Lillian Pergantis (Demetre) Argeris and Chris Archie Argeris, as well as her husband John David Thomas.

She leaves behind her devoted wife of two years, Christine Doughty of Greenfield Massachusetts; her two beloved daughters, Tassia Gwyneth Thomas of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Daphne Alethea Thomas of Boylston, Massachusetts; Three wonderful grandchildren, Penelope and Loula Housh and Lileaka Montana Krasnow Thomas; and her loving sister Katherine Demetre Argeris of North Caldwell, New Jersey.

Christina was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 10, 1947, and grew up in North Caldwell, New Jersey. She attended high school at Mount Saint Dominic Academy and continued her education at Franklin Pierce College, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree.  She also earned two Masters Degrees from Antioch College, one in Psychology and the other in Education.

Christina was a cosmopolitan woman who began her world travels at the young age of 17. She visited most of the 50 states in her twenties, only planting roots after meeting her husband John David Thomas in Montana. There, she and her husband owned a ranch raising hogs and breeding Saluki dogs. She later moved to Greenfield Massachusetts and opened a health food restaurant in the 70‘s, where she introduced many to the idea of eating healthy, whole foods long before it was popular.

After having her two children, who were the light of her life, she worked at Head Start. There she realized her true passion for social services, a field she worked in for more than 45 years before retirement. She was an instrumental part of the organization the New England Learning Center for Woman in Transition (NELCWIT ) and was also a Racial Sensitivities course trainer for many local Massachusetts’ police departments. She was highly respected, honored many times by various town and state departments for her commitment to social services.

In addition to her career, she was always politically active in her communities. She served a two-term elected position as a Town Council Member in Greenfield, Massachusetts. She was also elected by her condo association to sit on the Board of Trustees in Wells, Maine, where she vacationed in her retirement.

Christina Thomas loved to dance and listened to a wide variety of music. She played the piano beautifully, spoke multiple languages, attended every symphony orchestra she could, and frequented art museums as well as Broadway plays and musical shows. She had an amazing ability to balance emotion, crusading for the less fotunate with a fantastic sense of humor.

Christina “Crystal” Thomas will be most remembered for her pioneering work in women's rights issues and beloved for her unwavering support in the fight for all human equality.
