Bernard J. Zewinski, Turners Falls

              

Bernard Joseph “Zoo” Zewinski passed away peacefully on August 4, 2017 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
 

Bernie was born in Turners Falls on January 18, 1939 the only son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hannifin) Zewinski.  He grew up in the “Patch” surrounded by his extended family, polish heritage and Catholic faith.  Bernie graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1957.

 

He married Nancy (Hanley) Zewinski in 1959 in Greenfield and shortly thereafter moved to 20 Norman Circle in Turners Falls where they proudly raised their four children .    
 

Bernie was a car salesman for Dillon Chevrolet for many years moving up the ranks to Sales Manager.  He was admired throughout his career for his tenacity, customer focus, creativity and ability to close a deal. He was recognized by Chevrolet with membership in the Legion of Leaders. He loved his job, lunches at Famous Bill’s, and always looked forward to the challenge of starting a new month.

 

 

During retirement, Bernie enjoyed following his grandchildren’s school and sporting events, spending time in Mattapoissett watching the sailboats with a lobster or two, sharing a beer and conversation with those who came to visit and looking forward to “get togethers” throughout the year with his family. He was an avid sports fan following Notre Dame, Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.  

 

Bernie was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls, a charter and life member of the Montague Elks Lodge, Montague Lions Club (past president), Montague School Committee and Turners Falls Athletic Club. Bernie also coached for the Newt-Guilbeault Baseball League.


 

Bernie was predeceased by the love of his life, Nancy on July 20, 2017.  He is survived by Pam and Charles LaBove of Shrewsbury, Susie and Bill Prunier of South Deerfield, Sandy and Alan Miner of Greenfield, and Joe and Sheila Zewinski of Whately. 

 

He leaves his grandchildren Caitlin, Kristen, Matthew, Chad, Kelly, Brett, Derek, Billy, Anna, Amanda, Eli, Brody and his great-grandchildren Levi, CJ and Alaina.
 

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls, MA.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Friends, neighbors and relatives are invited to join the family for a visitation at Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square,Turners Falls prior to the church service from 8:30 – 9:30 AM.

 

 Bernie has requested charitable donations be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Springfield, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA  01104
