Barbara A. (Wyman) Tompkins

September 17, 1939 ~ March 17, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Turners Falls—Surrounded by her loving family, Barbara A. (Wyman) Tompkins, 77, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Barb was born in Montague on September 17, 1939, the daughter of Walter and Helen (Ulrich) Wyman. She was a 1957 graduate from Turners Falls High School and then went on to be trained at the Farren Memorial Hospital as a laboratory technician.   For over 35 years, she supported the patients of Franklin Medical Center working as a Histology Technician before retiring in 2004.

Barb was a lifelong resident of Turners Falls and enjoyed supporting her grandchildren at all of their high school sporting events.  When she wasn’t cheering them on, she attended Our Lady of Peace Church where she often greeted those that came to church as part of the Hospitality Team.  Each summer she looked forward to spending a girl’s weekend with her best friends from high school.  They would travel from around the area to meet in Falmouth on Cape Cod. She enjoyed her flower garden, watching her birds, and road trips to Foxwood Casino with Mary, as well as spending time with her children.

She leaves her children, Scott Tompkins and his wife Sandy of Chicopee, Kyle Tompkins and his partner Frank Roebuck of Brookline, Kelly Markol of Turners Falls and Jodi Ozdarski and her husband Mark of Turners Falls, her five grandchildren Haley, Morgan, Brody, Jake and Kayla. Barb also leaves her brother Jon “Jake” Wyman and his wife Carol of Bradenton, FL, sister in-laws Bette Putala and her husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL and Jan Burnham of Bluffton, SC and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barb was predeceased by her two brothers Donald and Robert Wyman, and her beloved husband, Neil Tompkins, of 57 years. She will join her high school sweetheart, her love forever and always.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 24, at 9:15 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St. with the Rev.
