Arlene Senser

1/12/26 –12/25/2016

Arlene (Bradley) (Young) Senser, age 90, of Greenfield MA, formerly of Bernardston, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 25th.  Arlene was born on Jan. 12, 1926 in Concord, NH to the late John Bradley of Alburg, VT and Mable (Belanger) Bradley of Belmont, NH.

Mrs. Senser’s life-long dream was to own and operate her own restaurant, which was accomplished in 1971 when she and her late husband, Russell Young, purchased The Logs Restaurant in Turners Falls and ran a very successful business for a number of years.   In later years Arlene became the main cook for the Shady Glen Restaurant, also located in Turners Falls, but desserts have always been her specialty. She was well known throughout the area as the Pie and Dessert Lady.

Upon her retirement she moved to Bernardston and became very active in the Senior Center and was instrumental in making the center a fun place to congregate and in promoting a number of activities and events. Arlene rarely arrived at the center without carrying in some type of dessert to share with all her friends.

Arlene and her companion of 22 years, Rod Krug, enjoyed many years of camping with their RV friends, taking bus trips, entertaining family and friends, playing cards and going out to eat, but most of all she enjoyed getting together with her family.

Arlene is survived two daughters, Janice Kerylow of Athol, MA and Judy Covey and husband Ronald of Brattleboro, VT; one son, Richard and his wife Raye of Millers Falls. She is also survived by her partner Rodney Krug and his three children, Robert and Nancy of Arizona, formerly of Turners Falls, and a son John of Greenfield; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice Cheney of St. Albans, VT, and one brother, Raymond Bradley and wife Sue of Idaho, and sisters-in-law Lois Bradley of Concord, NH and Anne Reinke of Florence, MA.  and a brother-in-law Jack Senser of California.

She was predeceased by a son, Stephen R. Young of Turners Falls in 2013, and an infant son, Russell Young, Jr., three brothers, Fred Bradley, Arthur Bradley, and Robert Bradley, her second husband, Carl Senser, and her son-in-law Dennis Kerylow.

Services will be held Thursday (1-12-17) at 11 AM at the Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square Turners Falls with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit officiating. A calling hour will be held from 10 AM until service time. Burial will take place at later date in Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord, NH.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bernardston Senior Center, C/O Dianne Cornwell, P.O. Box 504, and 20 Church Street, Bernardston, MA  01337.
