Turners Falls- Anna J. (Nahirniak) Mirecki, 93, of Maple Street died Sunday 2/25/18 at the Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst. She was born in Nakwarsa, Poland on December 18, 1924, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Ordynowicz) Nahirniak. She was the youngest of six girls.
Anna married Alfred Mirecki on April 16, 1944, immigrating to the United States on April 18, 1947, settling in Montague, MA.
She was employed as a kitchen aide at the former Farren Memorial Hospital for many years, retiring in 1978 from the laundry department.
Anna was known to all as “Momma Mirecki”. She was a longtime crafter at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center Employee Craft Fair. Anna won many ribbons at the Franklin County Fair for her knitted and crocheted items. She loved listening to Jay Fidanza and Bobby C on WHAI.
Among her survivors, Anna leaves three children; daughter, Mary-Ann of Turners Falls; son, Edward (Diane) of Windham, ME; and daughter Janina Mahler of Manchester, CT; five grandchildren, Cheryl Moorehead of Windham, ME; Karen (Jon) Decker of Biddeford, ME; Kevin (Jennifer) Mirecki of Gardiner, ME; Beth Desmareaux of Saline, MI; and Mark (Heather) Mahler of Manchester, CT; nine great grandchildren, Aidan, Ashlynn and Madison Moorehead; Justice, Kai and Milo Decker; Emma Mahler and Julia and Kate Desmareaux; a cousin, Sam Melnick of Deerfield; and several nieces and nephews, especially Andy (Karen) Rewa and Sandy (Kevin) Dowd, whom she considered her own. Anna also had a special love that was shared with Marie (John) Putala, whom she considered her adopted daughter and referred to her as “My Marie”.
Besides her parents, Anna was predeceased by her husband, Alfred in 2004 and sisters, Stella, Melanie, Anna, Julia and Barbara, her twin.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday 2/28 at 10am at the Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 84 K Street, Turners Falls. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery in Turners Falls.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday morning from 8:45am to 9:45am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.
