Erving- Lester I. Maynard, Jr., 71, of North St., died Saturday (12/31/11) at home. He was born in South Deerfield on October 5, 1940, the son of Lester and Sarah (Stacey) Maynard, Sr.

He attended Smith Academy and was a self-employed mechanic at Bernardston Auto Wrecking, Sirum Brothers, and Hosley Automotive.

He liked drag racing and out running the law. He was a rebel in his hay day like James Dean. He was known for his ability to fix and build cars. He was known as the "Jeep man". His CB handle was "Ridge Runner". Everyone knew they could come to "Les' Garage" and have a good time, just don't get on his bad side or you will be banned and have to earn your way back in.

He loved jeeping throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. He enjoyed camping and spending time in the outdoors.

Dad will be terribly missed by anyone who had the chance to know him, especially by the Erving Gang.

He was predeceased by his wife Antionette Dziema in 1973.

Among his survivors he leaves five daughters, Deb Pervere and her husband Mike of Erving, Bonnie Page and her husband Roy of Montague, Karin Cartier and her husband Mike of Montague, Leslie Lucier of Greenfield, Kristi Russell of Northfield, four grandchildren, Sara Maynard, Derrek and Steven Sochocki, Austin Page, three great-grandchildren, Nyasiah Maynard, Logan and McKennah Sockocki, and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday (1/7/12) at noon at Wheelerville Club, 698 E. Main St. off Brookside Rd. in Orange, MA

There are no calling hours.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice or a gesture of kindness to someone in need.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kostanski Funeral Home.
